The motorcycle was based on the engine from [[Suzuki_GSF1200_Bandit | Suzuki GSF 1200 Bandit]], which was reconfigured to increase traction at low revs. However, it was still the same 1157 cc air-oil power unit. see, delivering 100 hp. and about 98 Nm of torque, fully available already at 4500 rpm. Instead of the Mikuni BST36 and Mikuni BSR36 carburetors used on the Bandit, the Suzuki GSX 1200 Inazuma gets Keihin CVK32 carburetors.

Features of the Suzuki GSX1200 Inazuma motorcycle include a steel tubular frame, aluminum swingarm, 5-speed gearbox, simple suspensions (classic Showa double shock at the rear and telescopic fork at the front) and 4-piston Brembo brakes.
