The Yamaha FZ400 Fazer road bike model appeared in 1997 based on the export version Yamaha FZS600 Fazer. The motorcycle was aimed at the domestic Japanese market and was not officially delivered anywhere. The Yamaha FZ400 Fazer was only produced during 1997, after which production ceased, selling off the remains until 2000.

The model was based on the base (body, frame, wheels, suspension, part of the braking system) from the 1st generation FZS600 Fazer with a different engine, carburetors (Keihin) and front brakes (Brembo). The engine is a 399 cc in-line 4-cylinder liquid-cooled unit. see, delivering 53 hp. power and 38 Nm of torque.

Frame - tubular steel. The suspensions are a conventional telescopic fork in the front and a monoshock in the rear. The braking system features two 298mm discs with 4-piston Brembo calipers at the front and one 245mm disc with a 2-piston caliper at the rear. Fuel tank for 18 liters. The curb weight is 199 kg.

Despite an interesting concept, the Yamaha FZ 400 Fazer did not gain popularity and was discontinued that same year. Nevertheless, the model is among the most favorite Japanese motorcycles for beginners with an engine capacity of 400 cc. see. The motorcycle is quite popular on the Russian market, the main source of supply is Japanese auctions.
