The Yamaha XT660X appeared in 2004 with the enduro [[Yamaha_XT660R | Yamaha XT660R]]. The motorcycle was based on the same 1-cylinder Minarelli engine with a volume of 659 cc. see, delivering 48 hp. power and almost 60 Nm of torque. This motor is also installed on the [[Yamaha_MT-03 | MT-03]] model.

Unlike enduro, the Yamaha XT660X model has a number of significant changes:

* Decreased fork reach by 1.25 degrees.
* Front suspension travel is reduced to 200 mm (since 2007 - 191 mm), suspension elements are more rigid.
* 17 '' Excel spoked wheels.
* More powerful front brake - 320mm disc, 4-piston Brembo caliper.
* Increased curb weight - 186 kg versus 181 kg for [[Yamaha_XT660R | XT660R]].

Of the characteristic features of the Yamaha XT660X, a steel frame, simple suspensions in the form of a conventional telescopic fork and a monoshock, an injection engine power supply system, a 5-speed gearbox, a 15-liter fuel tank and 186 kg of curb weight should be distinguished.

2014 was the last year of production of the Yamaha XT660X, after which it left the market and did not receive further development.
