The Kawasaki KLE 400 was first introduced in 1991. The motorcycle is built on the basis of the export version [[Kawasaki_KLE500 | Kawasaki KLE 500]] and the engine from the sports Kawasaki GPZ400S (later installed on such models as - [[Kawasaki_EN400_Vulcan | Kawasaki EN400 Vulcan]] and [[Kawasaki_EX-4 | Kawasaki EX-4 ]]). The Kawasaki KLE 400 was targeted at the domestic Japanese market and was not officially supplied to other countries. In fact, the model is the first generation KLE500 with a 400cc engine.
