Touring motorcycle model Honda GL1800 Gold Wing appeared in 2001 as a successor of the model Honda GL1500 Gold Wing. Compared to its predecessor, the new version has received a number of technical differences:
- New engine. Increased the volume from 1520 to 1832 cm³, received electronic fuel injection (PGM-FI), the timing belt drive was replaced by a chain drive.
- New frame. Steel was replaced by aluminum.
- New brakes. The model received 3-piston calipers of the combined braking system (Dual CBS) and versions with ABS.
- New appearance and ergonomics. The changes affected the design of the plastic, the dashboard and the ergonomics of the landing.
Main competitors:
In 2006, the Gold Wing 1800 received a few small changes that included increased driver comfort when driving in cold weather (increased heat and airflow adjustments), increased speaker size and frame design (reinforced rear). In the same year, it becomes possible to equip the motorcycle with an airbag (Airbag) and a proprietary navigation system (Internavi).
At the end of 2011, the model undergoes a serious restyling, receiving an updated and more modern appearance, improved ergonomics and airflow system, an increase in the capacity of luggage trunks up to 150 liters, and a new audio system. These models come as the 2012 versions, production has been moved from the US to Japan.
Since 2018, Honda has offered a new generation of the Gold Wing 1800. The model has received a completely new look, frame and engine. Two versions are now offered - '' Honda Gold Wing (regular version without center bag) and ' Honda Gold Wing Tour ' (version with center bag). In addition, there are versions with an automatic DCT. The traditional front fork is replaced by a double-lever fork (reminiscent of the proprietary BMW Duolever suspension), the brake system becomes a 6-piston radial-mounted caliper, the dimension of the brake discs also increases. The new version also features electronic throttle, traction control with a choice of 4 driving modes, 6-speed gearbox (7-speed in DCT), Hill Start Assist, electronically adjustable suspension, pressure sensor in tires and a full-fledged on-board computer.
