Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere was first presented in March 2010 at a motorcycle show in Dortmund (Germany). This motorcycle has received the status of the flagship in the line of Yamaha tour-enduro motorcycles and combines all the modern technologies used in motorcycle construction. Naturally, the appearance of the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere was primarily due to the desire to compete with BMW and Triumph, as well as to take a part of the European market for heavy touring enduros.
The Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere was based on an in-line 2-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a volume of 1199 cc. see, issuing 112 hp. power and 117 Nm of torque. The motor is tuned for powerful traction from low revs and delivers maximum performance at 6000-7250 rpm. The engine has electronic fuel injection, 2 spark plugs per cylinder, an electronically controlled throttle (YCC-T system), TCS traction control with a choice of several power take-off modes and a dry sump lubrication system. The ignition pattern is tuned in such a way that the in-line engine sounds and operates like a V-shaped 2-cylinder engine (Crossplane technology).
Other features of the Yamaha XT1200Z Super Tenere include a steel frame, cardan drive to the rear wheel, fully adjustable suspensions in the form of an inverted fork (43 mm) at the front and a monoshock at the rear, powerful 4-piston combined brakes with ABS and a 23 liter fuel tank.
