Yamaha XV1600A Road Star (Wild Star)

The Yamaha XV1600A Road Star / Wild Star appeared in 1999 as the successor to Yamaha XVZ1300A Royal Star and as the most cubed Japanese chopper on the market. Initially, the model was focused on the markets of North America, Europe and Japan (in the USA, Canada and Japan the motorcycle had the prefix `` Road Star in the name, in Europe - `` Wild Star ), but in 2000 the motorcycle left the Japanese market and was only available in North America and Europe. In 2003 the model was discontinued, and in 2004 it was replaced by an updated one - Yamaha XV1700A Road Star.

The main feature of the Yamaha Road Star 1600 is the engine, which is a classic 2-cylinder V-shaped air-cooled unit with a volume of 1602 cc. cm. Unlike the traditional timing system, this motor received a lower camshaft, which set the valve in motion by means of special remote rods. This arrangement is often used on motorcycles of American manufacturers, but for Japanese cruisers, this technical solution was new. Also, engine performance varies slightly depending on the sales markets. So, the Japanese versions produced 58 hp. and 126.5 Nm of torque, and also had a slightly lower operating speed (at 250 rpm). The rest of the versions produced 63.5 hp. and 134 Nm of torque, but had slightly higher (by 250 rpm) operating speed.

Other features of the Yamaha XV1600A Road Star / Wild Star include a steel tubular frame, suspension in the form of a telescopic fork at the front and a progressive mono-shock absorber at the rear, a 5-speed gearbox, a belt drive, disc brakes front and rear, wheels with a dimension of 16 'and a width of 130 and 150 mm, respectively, a fuel tank of 20 liters and 332 kg of curb weight.

Major modifications of the Yamaha Road Star / Wild Star 1600:

  • Yamaha XV1600A Road Star (Wild Star) - The usual classic version of the motorcycle.
  • Yamaha XV1600AT Road Star Silverado - touring version of the motorcycle. Available for North America only. Features riveted saddle, passenger backrest, side trunks, windshield and whitewall tires (white stripes).
  • Yamaha XV1600AS Midnight Star - version with a black engine. Available for North America. It has appeared since 2000.
