Kawasaki GPZ600R (Ninja 600R)

The Kawasaki GPZ600R sports bike model appeared in 1985 and is considered the ancestor of all Kawasaki sports motorcycles in the 600cc class. In the North American market, the model was called the Kawasaki Ninja 600R . The model was focused on sales in Europe and North America, so it is extremely rare in Japan. Instead, there was a 400 cc model on the Japanese market - Kawasaki GPZ400R.

Lineup::

The Kawasaki GPZ 600 R was based on an in-line 4-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with a volume of 592 cc, producing 75 hp. power and almost 52 Nm of torque, which at one time was hardly a record.

In 1987, a version of the Kawasaki Ninja 600RX appeared on the American market, which exists only for a given year and differs from the standard version of the Ninja 600R in an aluminum frame and slightly less weight. This modification was not available on the European market.

Of the features of the Kawasaki GPZ600R, the suspension should be noted, which in front are presented in the form of an air fork with an anti-spike system and an air mono-shock absorber at the rear with an adjustable rebound characteristic. Despite their archaic nature, in comparison with more modern pendants, at the time of their release they were advanced technologies.

The braking system is full disc, with 1-piston calipers and discs with a diameter of 270 mm. The bike also had 16 'narrow wheels, which was typical of sports bikes of the time (modern models use 17' wheels).

Other important features of the Kawasaki GPZ600R include a 6-speed gearbox, an 18 liter fuel tank and 217 kg of curb weight (the version with an aluminum frame of the Ninja 600RX weighed 213 kg).

1989 was the last year of production of the model, after which it was finally replaced by the Kawasaki GPX600R, which has been on the market since 1988. By the way, in the American market there was no division of models into GPZ and GPX - there both models bore the same name Ninja 600R, therefore, to distinguish American versions, it is recommended to compare the factory designation of models:

Modifications:

  • Kawasaki Ninja 600RX (with aluminum frame) - ZX600B
