Yamaha FZ6 begins its history in 2004, when two modifications come to replace the obsolete Yamaha FZS 600 - Yamaha FZ6N and Yamaha FZ6S. The first version is a classic modern naked, the second is the same motorcycle, but with a front half fairing.
The Yamaha FZ6 was based on the engine from the sports Yamaha YZF-R6, which was slightly derated, improving the low-end torque and reducing the maximum power to 98 hp. The engine is high-speed and produces maximum characteristics for 10000-12000 rpm.
The main modifications of the Yamaha FZ6:
- Yamaha FZ6N - regular naked version
- Yamaha FZ6S - version with front half fairing.
- Yamaha FZ6R - aka Yamaha XJ6 Diversion (for Europe) - full fairing version (replaced the Yamaha FZ6 series since 2010).
Additional modifications of Yamaha FZ6:
- Yamaha FZ6 S2 - European full bore (98 hp) naked version with a different saddle, passenger footpegs and brake calipers.
- Yamaha FZ6 Fazer S2 - European full-strength (98 hp) version with front half fairing.
The Yamaha FZ6 model existed on the market until 2010, after which it was replaced by a new version - Yamaha FZ8. The only exception was the North American market, where the Yamaha FZ6R is still on sale (in the European market it is known as Yamaha XJ6 Diversion F).
The main competitors of the Yamaha FZ6 in the class:
- Honda CBF 600 / Honda CB600F Hornet
- Kawasaki Z750 / Kawasaki ER-6
- Suzuki GSF 650 Bandit / Suzuki GSR 600
