The Yamaha XJ 900 S Diversion appeared in 1995 as the successor to the XJ900 series.
Unlike the old Yamaha XJ900F and Yamaha XJ900N models, the new version of the Yamaha XJ 900 S Diversion had a slightly modified engine, a more modern appearance, an increased fuel tank by 24 liters, and a new dashboard. The model was widely sold in Europe and Oceania (Australia), and is practically not represented in Japan.
In some countries around the world, the Yamaha Diversion 900 was used as a police motorcycle, for this purpose a special modification was developed - the Yamaha XJ900P Diversion.
The main feature of the Yamaha XJ 900 S Diversion is an air-cooled, in-line 4-cylinder 8-valve engine that produces about 90 hp. power and 84 Nm of torque. Despite the declared class "sports tourist", the motor cannot be called something sporty and high-revving, since the maximum performance is reached at 7000-8250 rpm, and the high curb weight, cardan drive and multifunctional dashboard made the motorcycle more like a tourist model ...
Key features of the Yamaha XJ 900 S Diversion include a cardan drive, a classic steel frame, simple suspensions, a 5-speed gearbox, a 24-liter fuel tank and almost 240 kg dry matter.
2002 was the last year of production of the model, after which it was discontinued and did not receive further development. Official sales of new motorcycles were carried out until 2004.

The "little brothers" of the model are Yamaha XJ600S Diversion and Yamaha XJ400S Diversion.
